The 350 million figure includes Google One, Gemini, YouTube Premium, and YouTube Music, reflecting growing demand for ad-free experiences, cloud storage, and advanced artificial intelligence tools. Adding 25 million subscribers in just three months highlights how quickly users are shifting toward paid digital services within Google’s ecosystem.
YouTube Premium and Google One record their biggest quarter yet
January through March 2026 saw the “largest quarterly increase in the total number of non-trial subscribers” for YouTube Music and Premium since the subscriptions launched in June 2018. That performance marks a significant moment for YouTube’s paid offering.
Google’s subscriptions business grew 19% year over year in Q1 2026, in line with the 19% growth the company also saw in Search. On the earnings call, CFO Anat Ashkenazi said Google One subscriptions “benefited from increased demand for AI plans.”
The AI angle is becoming central to this growth. Google One played an important role in making the quarter successful, as the cloud subscription service introduced AI technology alongside other products, including Gemini, prompting many users to subscribe in exchange for productivity and creativity applications in one package.
Pichai said the Q1 period was Google’s “strongest quarter ever for our consumer AI plans, driven by the Gemini App.” That momentum translated directly into subscription growth, making Gemini both a product feature and a conversion driver.
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai had warned analysts last quarter that investors should evaluate YouTube’s business going forward based on a combination of ads and subscriptions, since users switching to a YouTube subscription plan has a negative impact on ad revenue. That trade-off is now becoming clearer.
Alphabet reported Q1 2026 revenue of $109.9 billion, up 22%, and net income of $62.6 billion. The surge in subscriptions from YouTube and Google One is no longer a secondary detail. It is becoming a core part of Google’s growth story.
