The programme offers a total of $10,000 in equity-free funding, with two winners set to receive $5,000 each after a live pitch at the Africa Technology Expo in Lagos.

Funding Meets Real Product Execution

Applications are now open for what organisers describe as a builder-focused opportunity designed for growth-stage startups across fintech, crypto, and digital payments.

Unlike early-stage competitions, the grant prioritises startups with working or near-live products. According to the organisers, “This initiative goes beyond ideas. It targets founders who already have working products and are ready to integrate Breet’s API to power real financial solutions across the continent.”

Participants will gain free access to Breet’s infrastructure, enabling them to integrate crypto payments, wallet services, and automated currency conversions into their platforms without holding digital assets.

To qualify for the final stage, applicants must demonstrate a live integration of the API and show how it improves their product before pitching to investors and ecosystem leaders.

Targeting Africa’s Growth-Stage Startups

The grant is aimed at startups operating in fintech, stablecoins, and payments, particularly those building for African markets or scaling across multiple countries.

Eligibility requirements include having a live or near-live product, readiness to deploy Breet’s API, and compliance with regulatory standards such as KYC and KYB partnerships.

The focus on execution reflects broader trends across Africa’s startup ecosystem, where access to funding has tightened and investors are placing more emphasis on proven products and sustainable business models.

Industry data also shows that many startups struggle due to limited capital and lack of infrastructure, challenges the grant aims to address by combining funding with technical support and market exposure.

Exposure, Partnerships, and Investor Access

Beyond funding, selected startups will benefit from direct exposure to investors, corporate leaders, and policymakers during the Africa Technology Expo 2026.

Five finalists will be shortlisted to pitch live, with winners announced on stage during the event scheduled for late June in Lagos.

Organisers say the programme is designed not just to fund startups but to help them scale through infrastructure and partnerships. As one statement notes, ‘Founders today need more than funding. They need infrastructure that works, faster routes to market, and access to the right commercial networks.”

Applications open on April 1 and will close on May 31, 2026, with shortlisted teams announced on June 10, ahead of the final pitch event.

For African founders building in financial technology, the grant presents a rare blend of funding, product integration, and ecosystem access at a time when scaling requires more than just capital.
