Binance strengthens Africa leadership

Binance said the move reflects its commitment to supporting the growth of digital asset markets across Africa, where interest in cryptocurrencies, blockchain applications, and cross-border payment solutions has expanded rapidly in recent years.

The exchange, which remains the world’s largest cryptocurrency platform by trading volume and users, is seeking deeper engagement with governments, financial institutions, and technology partners as more African countries develop frameworks for digital assets.

The Binance General Manager for Africa, Sammy Mutua, noted Africa’s growing role in the future of digital finance and the importance of building solutions that address local needs.

“Africa represents one of the most important regions for the future of digital assets, with strong fundamentals driven by innovation, a growing digital economy, and demand for more efficient financial systems,” Mutua said.

He added: “What is critical now is building in a way that is aligned with local realities, working alongside regulators, partners, and communities to ensure digital assets deliver tangible value.”

According to Binance, Mutua’s focus will include strengthening regulatory engagement, expanding ecosystem partnerships, and identifying practical blockchain use cases that complement existing financial systems across Africa.

The appointment comes as Africa attracts global crypto firms seeking to tap into the growing demand for faster, more affordable financial services. Cross-border payments, remittances, and financial inclusion remain key drivers of digital asset adoption in many African markets.

Binance has expanded its activities in Africa through education programs, industry partnerships, and policy engagement initiatives. The company views the region as a major opportunity for blockchain adoption, particularly in areas where traditional financial infrastructure remains costly or difficult to access.
