‘Scaling Market-Led Solutions’ will be the theme of AFEX‘s fourth annual Code Cash Crop event, which will take place in August 2023.

AFEX, the most important player in Nigeria’s commodities market, made the statement. Furthermore, the organisation is now accepting submissions from creative individuals in Nigeria and Kenya for the Ag-hackathon component of the event.

Code Cash Crop is an enthralling event that brings together innovators from the agriculture, finance, and technology industries to work on finding solutions to issues affecting Africa’s food systems.

The Focus AFEX Has

The first editions focused on bringing together key stakeholders from each industry to have a conversation about how their respective sectors are interrelated and the potential for collaboration.

The topic of “Disrupting Agriculture Trade Infrastructure” was the focus of the conversations that were held during the third edition. These discussions included issues of cross-border payment infrastructure and the introduction of efficiency into agricultural marketplaces.

The Ag-Hackathon was also launched during CCC 3.0. This event brought together more than 350 young people with the purpose of working together and presenting potential solutions that could disrupt the Agriculture Trade Infrastructure in Africa.

This year’s theme places an emphasis on prioritising conversations and ideation around ideas that solve a large gap in the market while simultaneously optimising sustainability and profitability.

Both the ag-hackathon and the main event of Code Cash Crop will bring together some of the most innovative people in the world to discuss how effectiveness and competitiveness may play an important role in the development of a thriving food system in Africa.

Due to the fact that the Ag-hackathon is accessible to participants in both Nigeria and Kenya, Code Cash Crop will soon be moving into Kenya for the very first time. Young businesspeople can seize a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop ground-breaking concepts and lucrative business models that address issues plaguing the ecosystem by taking advantage of this platform. With a focus on data and analytics, access to market and input, and finance facilities, the 4.0 challenge is looking for technological breakthroughs and developments that may address pressing demands in the market.

Remark from the  VP of AFEX

Mariam Tobun, Vice President of Corporate Services at AFEX, was asked to comment on this year’s iteration of the event, and she stated the following:

“We recognize the shift in the global and local markets that calls for solutions that prioritise sustainability and strong unit economics, and this is a key consideration in our theme for the year.

“Code Cash Crop is undoubtedly an essential piece of the Agricultural ecosystem, and for 4.0 we are incredibly committed to promoting conversations and engineering profitable solutions through the Ag-hackathon. It is a unique opportunity to have the important voices in the room asking the important questions.”

A live pitch session from the participants of the Ag-hackathon will be one of the highlights of the grand finale, which will also include networking and panel discussions from industry professionals spanning Agriculture, Agribusiness, Finance, Government, and other stakeholders, as well as exhibitors from startups operating within the same industries.
