Carry1st announced the Africa Cup as the official qualifying tournament for African teams aiming to compete in the Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship 2025 on Saturday.
This marks the first time Africa has a dedicated route to the global event, highlighting the continent’s growing presence in esports.
The tournament runs from May through July 2025, with regional online qualifiers leading to the LAN Grand Finals scheduled for August 30-31, 2025, in Lagos, Nigeria.
Teams from Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, North Africa (Egypt and Morocco), Kenya, Uganda, West Africa Francophone countries (Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Senegal), and one Wildcard slot representing other African nations will compete for a $15,000 prize pool and the honor of representing Africa on the world stage.
The Wildcard slot encourages participation from non-qualifying countries, highlighting the tournament’s pan-African reach.
Guillaume Noé, Carry1st’s VP of Growth, began the tournament talk by saying, “Last year proved that African talent can compete at the highest level. Now, with Activision’s recognition, our players are no longer just representing their countries — they’re stepping onto the global esports stage.”
How to participate and tournament format
Players aged 18 and above are eligible to participate by April 24, 2025. Only mobile phones are allowed during matches, maintaining the integrity of the mobile gaming experience.
Teams must consist of players from the same country, especially in the Wildcard qualifier, ensuring fair representation.
The competition begins with online regional qualifiers featuring weekend matches, including group stages and knockout rounds.
Successful teams advance to the LAN Grand Finals in Lagos, where they will compete offline for the championship title and the chance to join the global Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship. Matches will be streamed live on Carry1st’s official platforms, promising high-quality commentary and thrilling gameplay for African fans.
To register, players must log into their Carry1st account, create or join a team, and sign up for the competition. Matches are organized through the platform, with clear rules on hosting, reporting results, and dispute resolution to ensure smooth tournament operations.
