VivaTech, the Paris-based technology conference, has launched applications for the fourth edition of its AfricaTech Awards, a competition for African startups driving innovation in green tech, e-health, and e-commerce/fintech.

The awards are a key part of VivaTech’s dedication to promoting entrepreneurship and technological advancement in Africa.

Opportunities for African startups

The AfricaTech Awards offer startups access to a global network of industry leaders, investors, policymakers, and institutions.

Finalists in each category will be invited to VivaTech 2025 to pitch their ideas to investors, media, and potential partners.

Selection and eligibility

To be eligible, startups must be headquartered in Africa or have a strong market focus. They should also have raised at least $150,000 in funding, demonstrating traction and scalability.

The competition is divided into Green-Tech, E-Health, and E-Commerce/Fintech.

VivaTech says startups provide vital solutions to significant global challenges and help foster sustainable development.

African startups often struggle to raise the capital needed to scale their businesses despite increasing investor interest.

Through the AfricaTech Awards, VivaTech aims to create new opportunities for emerging African startups. The program offers networking and mentoring with tech leaders, major investors, and policymakers.

The selection criteria include:

Innovation: The relevance and innovation level of the tech solution.

Impact: The product’s ability to address a global challenge with social, economic, and environmental impact.

Scalability: The market size and scalability potential of the startup.

Team Profile: The quality and size of the team.

Business Model: The ability to monetise the business model.

Applications for the AfricaTech Awards are now open and will remain so until March 2, 2025.
