Agripredict, a pioneering agricultural tech company, has launched an AI-based weather app designed to revolutionise farming in Zambia. The app is a comprehensive agricultural assistant that offers predictive insights to help farmers optimise their practices.

What the App Offers

The app utilises over 100 interconnected AI processes, including natural language processing (NLP) and satellite texture analysis, to deliver precise and actionable information. Farmers can interact with the app conversationally, asking, “What crops should I plant in my location during the upcoming season?” The app cross-references this input with real-time weather data, historical climate patterns, and soil conditions specific to the farmer’s location.

Satellite texture analysis further enhances the app’s predictive capabilities by assessing environmental factors such as soil moisture levels, air quality, and vegetation health. The data is processed using Google’s computing power, ensuring high accuracy. The app also features preventive tools, like vegetative index assessments based on plant chlorophyll levels, to help farmers avert potential disasters.

How does Agripredict empower farmers in Zambia?

Cassandra Mtine, CEO of Agripredict, emphasised the app’s role in bridging technology and traditional farming, stating, “By putting this power into the hands of farmers, we’re contributing to a more food-secure future.” Chief Technology Officer Jonah Banda added that the app democratises precision agriculture by making complex data accessible to all farmers, even those who are not tech-savvy.

Agripredict offers a USSD option for farmers without smartphones on MTN and Zamtel networks via *404#. This ensures that the app’s benefits reach a broader audience, making agricultural practices more resilient, efficient, and sustainable across Zambia.

Agripredict plans to continuously evolve the app, further integrating more advanced processes to enhance its predictive capabilities. The app, available for free on the Play Store, also includes e-market options, ensuring sustainability by connecting farmers and buyers through the platform.

By empowering farmers with sophisticated, expert-driven insights, Agripredict’s AI-powered weather app is set to transform agriculture in Zambia, making it more resilient, efficient, and sustainable.
