With an emphasis on new threats like deepfakes, digital fraud, and the need to boost confidence in the country’s AI-driven future, AI in Nigeria, one of the nation’s leading organisations for AI advocacy and development, announced Tuesday the third edition of its flagship annual conference, InnovateAI.
2026 summit theme: Responsible AI Beyond Innovation
The 2026 summit, with the theme “Responsible AI Beyond Innovation,” is anticipated to mark a turning point in Nigeria’s technological development as AI becomes more pervasive in daily life.
According to organisers, the event will shift the national dialogue from adoption to governance, security, and ethics principles required for long-term sustainability.
Building on the achievements of its previous iterations, InnovateAI has emerged as a focal point for the public, researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers. With the theme “Adapting AI for Nigeria,” the first edition in 2024 drew over 4,000 attendees in person and sparked policy debates.
Ehia Erhaboh, co-convener of AI in Nigeria, said in a statement that “AI is reshaping industries, economies, and societies at an unprecedented pace, but innovation without trust and governance risks leaving people behind.
“InnovateAI 2026 is a platform to ensure Africa defines its own AI future, one where ethics, inclusivity, and safety guide progress.”
Conference to examine effects of cutting-edge technologies on security and governance
The conference will also examine the effects of cutting-edge technologies on security and governance, as well as highlight real-world examples of responsible AI in various industries, including healthcare and finance.
Organisers say that creating frameworks that strike a balance between safety and innovation will give Nigeria and Africa a platform.
“This is not just a conference; it’s a catalyst for shaping Africa’s digital future,” noted Dotun Adeoye, co-convener of AI in Nigeria. “Our partners’ support is essential in building a more equitable, secure, and prosperous AI ecosystem for Nigeria and beyond.”
Flashback to 2024 InnovateAI summit: Scaling AI Adoption in Nigeria
Last year, the “Scaling AI Adoption in Nigeria” summit addressed systemic issues like talent shortages, data availability, and computing infrastructure, attracted over 6,000 attendees in person and was live-streamed to twelve community hubs throughout the six geopolitical zones.
The goal for 2026 is to ensure inclusive growth while protecting Nigeria’s digital society from new threats. The main topics of discussion will include digital literacy, deepfakes and fraud, safe financial services, AI governance in Africa, and how responsible innovation can propel the continent’s startup scene.
