Nxtra’s goal is to improve the speed at which digital services may be accessed while simultaneously lowering the cost of managing data by utilizing the capacity of data centers that are located in the immediate vicinity. It is anticipated that this effort will contribute to an increase in innovation and will assist in the formation of a new generation of technologically skilled individuals across Africa.

Nxtra: Significance Of Data Sovereignty

In addition, Nxtra addresses the growing significance of data sovereignty by providing clients with the ability to fulfill legal requirements while simultaneously facilitating the provision of more local cloud services in the countries in which Airtel Africa operates.

It is planned that the first Nxtra facility will be constructed in Lagos, Nigeria, and it will have a total power capacity of 34 megawatts (MW). Designed to reach a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.3, this facility is expected to be operational by the middle of the year 2025. It will be equipped with racks that have a high density and will make use of the most recent building best practices.

Yashnath Issur, who was previously the head of Global Data Centre Portfolio Management at Amazon Web Services, has been recruited as the Chief Executive Officer of Nxtra by Airtel. This appointment was made by Airtel Africa in order to guide Nxtra towards its ambitious ambition. In order to put Nxtra’s strategic vision into action, Yashnath Issur, who has sixteen years of expertise in the industry, has put together a group of proficient individuals.

In his remarks regarding the launch, Segun Ogunsanya, the Group CEO of Airtel Africa, stressed the importance of a quick rise in the capacity of data centers in order to support the expansion of the digital economy in countries across Africa. Nxtra is positioned to become a significant role in Africa’s march toward digital transformation, and he voiced confidence in Airtel Africa’s ability to execute cutting-edge infrastructure projects across the continent.
