Weeks after the Nigerian Communications Commission approved tariff hike, Airtel Nigeria has raised its data pricing structure and implemented a price adjustment of up to 50 percent.

The price change, which impacts a number of data bundles, is consistent with industry worries about rising operating expenses.

The action highlights the larger movement among telecom providers for a rate review to mitigate the effects of inflation and foreign exchange volatility, even though the company has not yet released an official statement.

In addition to data modifications, the 56 million+ subscriber operator raised voice call rates over the weekend.

Airtel promised consumers that its updated price list will remain affordable, saying, “Whatever your data needs are, we have a plan for you. Our fast, affordable, and reliable internet experience will keep you connected anytime, anywhere. To get started, Dial *312#.”

Revised prices of Airtel Nigeria’s data plans

The new daily and weekly data plans are N50 for 40MB, N100 for 100MB, N200 for 200MB, N350 for 1GB, N350 for 350MB, N500 for 750MB plus 1GB YouTube Night and 200MB YouTube Music/Spotify, N500 for 1GB plus 1GB YouTube Night and 50MB Socials, N500 for 2GB, valid for two days, and N1500 for 5GB, valid for seven days.

Similar to this, MTN, the biggest telecom company in Nigeria, has modified its call and data rates to reflect the NCC’s approval.

Customers now pay extra for Internet, SMS, and phone calls as a result of the price changes that were made a week ago.

The most recent hikes coincide with telecom providers’ struggles with inflation, volatile foreign exchange, and the growing expense of network infrastructure.

As communication expenses rise, subscribers may experience more financial strain, even though the changes are intended to promote long-term service enhancements.
