Airtel Uganda, in collaboration with the district authorities of Soroti, Tororo, and Bugiri, commissioned freshly erected and upgraded masts in Eastern Uganda on Thursday. Celebrations were held at the Asuret Sub-County Offices in Soroti and Kointario Primary School in Malaba, Tororo District.

Airtel has stayed true to its pledge to expand digital access throughout Uganda since switching from “A Smartphone Network” to “A Reason to Imagine” and attaining full 4G network in 2019.

These new sites are part of initiatives to improve digital inclusion and connection, which will ultimately improve livelihoods and spur economic growth for more Ugandans.

Importance of financial digital inclusion

Wongani Muthiya, Director of Growth Markets, spoke on behalf of Soumendra Sahu, Managing Director of Airtel Uganda, and emphasised the importance of financial digital inclusion.

Mr. Muthiya emphasised Airtel’s dedication to fostering better connection in order to support the economic goals of Soroti’s young and expanding population.

“We believe this partnership will support the community, especially the agricultural sector. Thank you for having us here — and please, do not share your Airtel Money PIN with anyone,” said Mr Muthiya.

Airtel Uganda’s primary goal

In agreement, David Birungi, Airtel’s Public Relations Manager, said that the company’s primary goal has always been to facilitate economic change by bringing people and companies together.

“That’s why we are here today — to continue expanding and improving our network.”

The economic potential of better connection was highlighted by the welcoming remarks given by local leaders to Airtel Uganda.

In Soroti District, Michael Olugu, Head of the Committee on Works and Natural Resources, who spoke on behalf of the LC5, thanked Airtel for the network upgrades and promised the district’s support.

Embracing digital advancement to keep up with global development

To keep up with global development, Soroti must embrace digital advancement, stressed Paul Eseru, Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Soroti.

“Airtel is a strong presence — not just in Uganda, but across many countries. Last year, while I was in Dubai, I was able to seamlessly communicate with my people back home — thanks to Airtel’s reliable connectivity. I’m here to recognise the significant contribution Airtel Uganda has made,” Mr. Eseru said.
