To offer bill muster services on the Airtel Money platform, Airtel Zambia has teamed up with Zanaco Bank.

Universities, colleges, and schools in Zambia that have accounts with Zanaco are given access to the Bill Muster service, which is a platform for collecting tuition and other fees.

The program is anticipated to help Zambians who could not pay their school expenses with cash or in-person transactions because they can now do so using mobile money.

At the partnership’s announcement, Noriana Muneku, Permanent Secretary for Administration in the Zambian Ministry of Education, commended both businesses for devising a more straightforward fee payment method.

Parents, guardians, and students can finally bid farewell to lengthy lines and the inconvenience of paying bills in person thanks to bill muster on Airtel money. “The Zambian government always feels happy to support projects meant to improve the quality of life in our communities,” Muneku stated.

Zambia’s mobile ecosystem

It will be interesting to observe how Airtel Zambia’s subscribers are affected by this partnership. With 10 million mobile customers at the end of the third quarter of 2023 and nearly 49% of the market, Airtel is Zambia’s largest operator, according to data from Connecting Africa’s sister company, Omdia, a market research firm.

After Zamtel, which had 3.4 million users and 17% of the market, MTN came in second with 7 million mobile users and nearly a third market share.

As MTN and Airtel have introduced 5G services in the nation, the collaboration is consistent with its efforts to enhance its information and communications technology (ICT) offerings.

Also launched in the nation in October 2023 was SpaceX’s satellite Internet service, Starlink.
