Amazon on July 3 announced that it will shut down its Freevee streaming app in August 2025. The Freevee app, known for offering free, ad-supported movies, TV shows, and live channels, will no longer be accessible after this date. Instead, all Freevee content will move exclusively to Prime Video, Amazon’s flagship streaming platform, where users can continue watching without a subscription fee.
Freevee content moves to Prime Video in August
Freevee, initially launched in 2019 as IMDb TV, gained popularity for its free ad-supported content, including originals like Bosch: Legacy and Jury Duty. Amazon’s decision to retire the Freevee app is part of a larger strategy to simplify its streaming services by consolidating content under the Prime Video brand.
A message inside the Freevee app informs users that “Prime Video is the new exclusive home for Freevee TV shows, movies, and Live TV,” urging viewers to download Prime Video and sign in with their Amazon account to continue watching.
Amazon has not made a loud public announcement about the shutdown; instead, it has opted for in-app notifications to inform users. This means that regular Freevee users will be aware of the change, but infrequent users might only discover the app’s closure when they try to access it after August.
