Apple will officially launch the highly anticipated iPhone 17 series on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, starting major new smartphone releases this fall.

Pre-orders are expected to begin on Friday, September 12, with the phones hitting stores and customers’ hands on September 19.

New models and design changes to watch for

This year’s iPhone lineup will include four models: the base iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a new iPhone 17 Air, which replaces the previously less popular Plus model.

Notably, the iPhone 17 Air promises a skinny and light design, measuring approximately 5.5mm thick, making it one of the slimmest iPhones ever.

The Pro versions will feature a redesigned camera layout to enhance photography capabilities, including a rumoured 8x optical zoom upgrade over the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s 6x zoom.

Apple is expected to continue refining the build quality and durability of the Pro models, blending premium materials with improved ergonomics.

These changes underscore Apple’s focus on balancing style with functionality, targeting users who want cutting-edge technology in sleek packages.

Expected pricing and availability

While Apple has yet to release official pricing details, industry experts predict that the iPhone 17 series’ costs will align with previous flagship pricing trends, maintaining premium positioning without major shifts in price tier.

The rollout will cover major global markets, including the United States, China, Europe, and Japan, aligning with Apple’s established release strategy to ensure broad, simultaneous availability.

Mark Gurman, a well-regarded tech journalist, has reinforced the likelihood of the September 9 event date and hinted that alongside the iPhone 17 launch, Apple will unveil updates for the Apple Watch lineup and possibly new AirPods models, rounding out a comprehensive fall tech event.

Stay tuned for further details as Apple formally announces event invitations expected around the start of September, but preparation for a tech event spectacle on September 9 is already underway.

The iPhone 17 series aims to set a new bar for design innovation and photographic technology just in time for the holiday season shopping rush.
