Network tower provider American Tower Corporation Ghana (ATC Ghana) has issued a press release announcing the suspension of power supply to Telecel Ghana, affecting the latter’s network equipment. The company stated that Telecel’s customers may experience network disruptions due to the interruption.

ATC Ghana cited Telecel’s failure to meet payment obligations for power supply as the primary reason for this action. Despite ongoing negotiations, both parties have been unable to reach an agreement, leading to the power suspension. ATC Ghana has notified the National Communications Authority (NCA) of these developments.

Telecel’s Response

Telecel Ghana issued a counter-statement denying any indebtedness to ATC Ghana and labelling the accusations as “utterly false.” Telecel affirmed its commitment to contractual obligations and assured subscribers of efforts to maintain uninterrupted service.

Telecel also mentioned that it has communicated with the NCA and hinted at the possibility of seeking legal action against ATC Ghana.

Industry Impact

The suspension of power supply by ATC Ghana raises concerns about potential network disruptions for Telecel Ghana’s subscribers. This conflict underscores the importance of clear contractual agreements and timely payment in maintaining uninterrupted network services.

As both companies continue to negotiate, the involvement of the NCA could play a crucial role in resolving the dispute. The outcome of this situation may set a precedent for how similar disputes are handled in the future.

The dispute between ATC Ghana and Telecel Ghana over unpaid dues and power supply suspension highlights the critical nature of financial and operational agreements in the telecommunications sector. Stakeholders will closely monitor the developments, especially given the potential legal implications and impact on network services for Telecel’s customers.
