The winners of BCX’s fifth annual digital innovation awards have been announced.

BCX is an information and communications technology services provider subsidiary of Telkom Group based in South Africa.

According to Jan Bouwer, Chief of Solutions and Innovation Sponsor at BCX, the firm introduced the public sector as a category this year, as well as the best society and sustainability as a sub-category.

Since 2019, the Telkom subsidiary has been hosting an annual event known as the Digital Innovation Awards.

The significance of these awards

According to Bouwer, the prizes are significant for the promotion of innovation and the acceleration of South Africa’s digital transformation.

“In this digital era, where innovative technologies are sculpting the business and public landscapes, we encounter challenges that, with a proactive approach, can transform into opportunities,”

“Navigating this intricate terrain demands staying intimately connected with our customers and citizens to consistently challenge established norms by leveraging technology.” he added.

The small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) category awarded the grand prize to Medsol AI Solutions for their creation of an artificial intelligence tool that can identify breast cancer.

The award for “Best in Technology” was given to Momint, a company that uses blockchain technology to make it easier for individuals to invest in solar power through crowdsourcing.

CareConnect was given an award for being the most beneficial to society and the environment. Patients have discretion over what information is shared with service providers thanks to the firm’s health information exchange, a digital system that stores patient information and is hosted by the company.

The South African Revenue Service was awarded the grand prize in the public sector category. This was in recognition of the South African Revenue Service’s efforts to improve the quality of the services it provides through the implementation of an automated assessment system for personal income tax.

The eThekwini Municipality was awarded the Best in Tech prize in this category because it has created a data lake and centralised all of the information for the purposes of digitalisation, automation, and data visualisation.

The Johannesburg Public Library was given an award for being the most beneficial to society and the environment. Reading abilities and literacy levels can both be improved with the use of a new mobile e-learning platform that has been created by the government agency.

In the last category, honours were given to the most deserving groups from the private sector. Netcare was victorious in the competition as a result of its successful installation of an electronic medical record system, which significantly improved record administration.

The customer engagement invention that was introduced by the financial company Absa earned it the Best Technology Award. This innovation takes a data analytics predictive modelling approach to improve the overall customer experience.

BCX expresses gratitude

The free online learning platform offered by Afrika Tikkun, which offered low-bandwidth access to internationally recognised Microsoft certificates, was the reason the company was selected as the winner of the Best in Society and Sustainability Award.

“We extend our thanks to all participants for being part of this inspiring initiative. Let this celebration of innovation, progress, and limitless potential inspire many others to innovate and transform our country into an innovation hub for the continent.“ remarked Bouwer.
