Relief efforts for quake victims

Binance Charity on Monday launched a donation initiative to assist those in earthquake-hit regions. The financial aid will be airdropped to users who complete the Know Your Customer (KYC) or Proof of Address (POA) verification by March 31, 2025. The eligible recipients will receive their BNB token vouchers through the Binance Reward Center by April 14, 2025.

Binance CEO Richard Teng expressed his sympathy for those affected, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the devastating earthquake that has occurred in Myanmar, Thailand, and surrounding areas. We pray for the victims, their families, and all those affected by this disaster. Binance stands in solidarity with the community, and we hope our efforts can bring some comfort and assistance during this difficult time.”

A statement from Binance’s official X account reinforced this sentiment: “In response to the catastrophic earthquake that hit Myanmar and the surrounding regions including Thailand, #Binance Charity, supported by Binance co-founder CZ, will launch a joint donation to distribute $1.5M in BNB token vouchers to users affected by tragedy in Myanmar and Thailand. We stand in solidarity with the communities during this challenging time.”

Information on the Myanmar earthquake

The earthquake, which struck Myanmar’s Sagaing Region on March 28, 2025, measured 7.7 in magnitude and caused widespread destruction, particularly in Mandalay, the country’s second-largest city. It was the strongest earthquake in Myanmar since 1912 and one of the deadliest in modern history.

Reports indicate that more than 3,340 people have died in Myanmar, with an additional 19 fatalities in Thailand. Over 3,900 people were injured, and many remain missing, including workers at a collapsed construction site in Bangkok. Myanmar’s ongoing civil conflict has further complicated relief efforts and information dissemination.

Both Myanmar and Thailand have declared a state of emergency as authorities continue rescue and recovery operations.
