Bolt Kenya has terminated more than 5,000 drivers for noncompliance and safety-related concerns as a consequence of implementing rigorous safety measures on its platform.

This proactive measure is intended to increase the service’s safety standards. During the preceding half-year, Bolt implemented the policy of terminating the accounts of driving companions who failed to satisfy the designated safety standards.

Bolt announced a significant allocation of KES 20 million (equivalent to $130,000) for the implementation of enhanced safety strategies and procedures in over 15 cities and villages throughout Kenya.

Overview

Recently, the ride-hailing behemoth was urged by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to provide a comprehensive strategy that effectively tackles the enduring safety issues that have been raised regarding both drivers and passengers.

Prominent concerns have included instances of drivers physically assaulting passengers and the unauthorised sale of Bolt driver accounts to third parties. Ensuring adherence to these regulations emerged as a critical requirement for Bolt in order to obtain the annual licence renewal.

In light of this directive, Bolt issued a statement detailing the safety strategy it had developed and rescinding the contentious “booking charge” that had previously incited disputes between customers and drivers. Bolt Kenya’s national manager, Linda Ndungu, underscored the organization’s dedication to user confidence, asserting, “We recognise the reliance our users have in us and are diligently implementing measures to guarantee their welfare throughout each journey.”

Bolt’s strong safety measures

Bolt delineated a variety of internal safety protocols with the objective of fortifying safety norms. One of the strategies implemented is the implementation of randomised driver photograph inspections and comprehensive passenger and driver training sessions. Strict compliance with regulations is required, and individuals discovered to be in violation of safety protocols are promptly suspended.

Additionally, the organisation has optimised its reporting systems to enable more convenient communication of any safety-related issues. Furthermore, Bolt has intensified its endeavours to enforce limitations on the platform, reiterating in their email statement that any violation of safety protocols will result in immediate and severe repercussions, including permanent suspension from the platform.

Bolt Kenya addresses challenges

A significant source of discontent among drivers has been Bolt Kenya’s commission rates, which, including reserving fees, surpass the maximum threshold of 18% recommended by the government. Discontentment has resulted from this inconsistency among motorists. Furthermore, the reputation of the platform has been negatively impacted by accusations of sexual harassment and assault purportedly committed against pilot companions.

Bolt Kenya’s actions demonstrate a strong dedication to placing safety as a top priority and resolving the issues that have been raised by both regulatory bodies and end users. Bolt is committed to providing a secure and reliable environment for drivers and passengers, as evidenced by their emphasis on rigorous protocols, improved training, and an updated reporting system.

Bolt’s proactive safety investments

The organization’s commitment to investing significant financial resources in safety measures signifies a proactive approach in identifying and resolving concerns that have tarnished the reputation of the service. Bolt Kenya’s dedication to fostering user confidence and ensuring their welfare throughout each journey serves to fortify its standing as a leader in the ride-hailing sector in Kenya that prioritises safety.

Bolt’s safer ride-hailing future in Kenya

In summary, despite ongoing obstacles, Bolt’s forward-thinking position, cooperative methodology with regulatory bodies, and significant financial commitments to safety programmes indicate a favorable course of action in the direction of cultivating a reliable and secure ride-hailing sector in Kenya.

The organization’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding users and pursuing ongoing enhancements demonstrates its resolve to redefine norms in the industry and guarantee the welfare of all participants in its ecosystem.
