Button bash offers $500 reward for Zimbabwe’s first-ever gaming event

Button Bash, Zimbabwe’s first-ever gaming convention, announced a total prize pool of $500 for the upcoming gaming tournaments, marking a major milestone for the local gaming community.

The announcement was made during a briefing in Harare, where the event coordinators shared details about the tournament structure and the prizes. This is the first time a gaming event in Zimbabwe is offering such a substantial cash prize, aiming to attract both amateur and professional gamers.

Details of the tournament and prizes

The Button Bash convention will feature several popular video games, including fighting, racing, and strategy titles. Players will compete in different categories, with the top winners receiving cash prizes from the $500 pool. The prize distribution will reward the top three players, with the champion taking home the largest share.

Button Bash showcases every genre, from fighting games to FIFA to shooters. Zimbabwean gamers are talented and passionate, so this level of investment demonstrates confidence. With Mortal Kombat 1, Tekken 8, and Blur (an unexpected game) being the three competitive tournaments at Button Bash, we can expect other prominent casual gaming games.

Event organiser Tendai Moyo said, “We want to encourage more gamers to participate and showcase their skills. Offering cash prizes is a way to motivate players and recognize their talent.” He added that the tournament is open to all ages and skill levels, making it an inclusive event for the gaming community.

Many players value validity over dollars while winning. Gamers have always supported each other through online play, local tournaments, and LAN parties, but Button Bash provides a formal forum for talents, tales, and winners.

Impact on Zimbabwe’s gaming scene

This announcement has generated excitement among Zimbabwean gamers, many of whom have expressed their enthusiasm on social media. Gamers see this as a chance to gain recognition and possibly launch careers in esports.

Local gamer and influencer Nyasha Chikore commented, “It’s amazing to see such support for gaming in Zimbabwe. The prize money will definitely push players to train harder and compete seriously.” He also mentioned that events like Button Bash help build a stronger gaming culture in the country.

Button Bash is scheduled to take place in July 2025, and registration will open soon.
