After buying a new data plan, it’s easy to ignore that phone screen pop-up. Remember the “One-Off” or “Auto-Renewal” option after subscribing?

Ignoring it can lead to making the wrong choice by clicking “Auto Renew.” Suddenly, your airtime balance renews a data plan you bought a few days ago. When airtime was supposed to support other services, it was frustrating.

This article explains how to cancel, stop or opt out of MTN, Airtel, GLO, and 9mobile auto-renewal data plans using the new USSD codes.

Users can struggle, especially with the new USSD code that many are still learning. Step-by-step guide:

How to cancel the auto-renewal option for MTN

Auto-renewal can be turned off in several ways on MTN. The good news is that they are all easy steps.

With the new USSD code

Simply dial *312#

Option 1: Data Plans

Choose option 11: Manage Data. 3- Cancel Auto-Renewal

Done! Success! Your subscription automatic renewal was cancelled.

By SMS

SMS auto-renewal cancellation may seem difficult. Finding the proper data plan code is crucial. What to do:

Check 312 SMS messages. Look for the main message you received when you acquired the data plan.

That message contains a code. Example: You wish to cancel the auto-renewal for a 50 Naira, 40MB plan. The code may be NO114.

Text NO114 to 312 to cancel this plan’s automatic renewal.

 

How to deactivate GLO auto-renewal

With the new USSD code

Dial *312# and choose option 1 for data plans.

Select Cancel. Automatic renewal completed! Successfully deactivated subscription auto-renewal.

By SMS

Follow these easy actions to stop Glo auto-renewal through SMS:

Launch your phone’s messaging app.

SMS “CANCEL” to 127 to stop data plan auto-renewal.

Glo will confirm.

With the new USSD code

Dial *312* your data plan amount*1#.

If you bought a 100-naira daily data plan, dial *313*100*1#.

After cancelling your subscription auto-renewal, you will receive a notification.

By SMS

Open your messaging app and write something.

Type ‘STOP‘

Send to 2442

You should receive a confirmation that you deactivated automatic renewal.
