After buying a new data plan, it’s easy to ignore that phone screen pop-up. Remember the “One-Off” or “Auto-Renewal” option after subscribing?

Ignoring it can lead to making the wrong choice by clicking “Auto Renew.” Suddenly, your airtime balance renews a data plan you bought a few days ago. When airtime was supposed to support other services, it was frustrating.

This article explains how to cancel, stop or opt out of MTN, Airtel, GLO, and 9mobile auto-renewal data plans using the new USSD codes.

What is “Auto Renewal”?

Auto-renewal renews your subscription when it expires, which is fantastic. Your account or phone line is charged the exact amount you used to acquire the data you ran out of.

You can choose from affordable data plans from these phone operators without auto-renewal. What if you accidentally choose wrong? How can you stop this data loop?

Users can struggle, especially with the new USSD code that many are still learning. Step-by-step guide:

How to cancel the auto-renewal option for MTN

Auto-renewal can be turned off in several ways on MTN. The good news is that they are all easy steps.

With the new USSD code

Simply dial *312#

Option 1: Data Plans

Choose option 11: Manage Data. 3- Cancel Auto-Renewal

Done! Success! Your subscription automatic renewal was cancelled.

By SMS

SMS auto-renewal cancellation may seem difficult. Finding the proper data plan code is crucial. What to do:

Check 312 SMS messages. Look for the main message you received when you acquired the data plan.

That message contains a code. Example: You wish to cancel the auto-renewal for a 50 Naira, 40MB plan. The code may be NO114.

Text NO114 to 312 to cancel this plan’s automatic renewal.
