OpenAI is enhancing its AI-powered ChatGPT chatbot with new “custom instructions” features. Using this feature, users can specify in ChatGPT how they want it to modify its responses to their specific requirements and preferences.

Users may also provide more details that they’d want ChatGPT to take into account while responding using the custom instructions feature. According to OpenAI, the beta version of this service is now available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. This update will be rolled out to all users in the “coming weeks.”

OpenAI’s API models will be trained using the data supplied in custom instructions in order to enhance their flexibility. However, users may opt out of this setting using their data control settings.

This feature is compatible with plug-ins, streamlining access to location-based suggestions like the costs of nearby places of interest and services.

For the time being, this function is reserved for “Plus” subscribers only. This function is still in its early stages of development and is currently accessible to users outside of the UK and Europe.

How to enable the new feature

Users can try the setting now on the web or on the ChatGPT iOS app.

On the web: Click on your name → Settings → Beta features → opt into Custom instructions. The feature will then appear in the menu when clicking on your name moving forward.

On iOS: Go to Settings → New Features → turn on Custom instructions. Custom instructions will appear in settings.

The Purpose and meaning of Artificial Intelligence

It allows one set of custom instructions at a time

Teachers and programmers may find this feature helpful as well. A third or fourth-grade educator, for instance, may develop customized rules for the content they generate for their young students.

According to a blog post by OpenAI, “a teacher crafting a lesson plan no longer has to repeat that they’re teaching 3rd-grade science.” Similarly “A developer who prefers efficient code in a language other than Python,” this statement just has to be spoken once for it to be fully comprehended.

Or, if you’re a programmer who prefers Python, you can instruct ChatGPT in the new custom instructions option so that it responds to your coding questions in Python automatically.

Users of OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus may only enter one set of custom instructions at a time, but those instructions can be as broad or specific as they want, so long as they fit in the available 1,500-character text boxes. This also implies that you may add numerous viewpoints into the text field and have ChatGPT respond from there.
