D.light, a worldwide solar energy provider, was named a key partner in Nigeria’s $750 million Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) program on March 10, 2025.

Program overview and objectives

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and the Federal Ministry of Power spearheaded the DARES program. DARES program gets boost from d.light in Nigeria

d.light’s participation in the DARES program is expected to contribute significantly to bridging Nigeria’s electricity gap. The company has a proven track record in deploying high-quality solar products at scale, including its success in Uganda’s $148 million UECCC program.

The DARES initiative aims to provide renewable energy to 17.5 million Nigerians, with plans for solar mini-grids and standalone systems impacting millions of households. The program will boost local economies by creating jobs, improving access to key services, and strengthening local industry by integrating renewable energy solutions.

Companies participating in DARES must meet stringent quality and technical standards, giving d.light an advantage due to its high-performance solar components and commitment to affordability.
