Dashen Bank, in collaboration with Ethio VIP Events Management, held a dialogue with members of the Ethiopian community in Dubai as part of a series of high-level engagements with the Ethiopian diaspora.

The bank’s statement on Saturday states that businesses, entrepreneurs, community leaders, influencers, and agencies representing foreign workers came together to discuss ways to improve relations and boost official remittance flows to Ethiopia.

Dashen Bank showcases lending and savings products to enhance remittance flows

Dashen Bank representatives offered a wide range of lending and savings options designed to meet the needs of remittance senders and the diaspora.

The Bank also unveiled its newly launched digital platforms, the Remittance Agent portal, Gift Ethiopia, and Connect, which are intended to promote the use of official banking channels and streamline cross-border transfers.

The session included presentations, a Q&A, and an open discussion. Participants offered insightful criticism, pertinent queries, and recommendations to enhance outreach tactics, user experience, and product design.

Dashen Bank’s commitment to working with the Ethiopian diaspora

Dashen Bank expressed gratitude for the feedback and pledged to work with the community to improve its diaspora-focused services in the future.

Through official banking channels, Dashen Bank is dedicated to strengthening ties with the diaspora, promoting safe and affordable remittance options, and assisting Ethiopia’s economic development.

Similar moves by Commercial Bank of Ethiopia

Dashen Bank’s move follows similar actions taken by another Ethiopian bank, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE).

Techpression reported on September 3 that CBE signed a historic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ethiopian community in Abu Dhabi to enhance formal remittance flows, foster a culture of saving, and increase access to business and investment financing.

The agreement also includes planned training and integration of informal money collectors into the legitimate financial system.

Following this move, CBE partnered with Botim, a prominent digital platform in the UAE, to enhance remittance flows and expand safe financial services for Ethiopians living overseas.

CBE President Abe Sano said the agreement aligns with the Ethiopian government’s ongoing reforms to liberalise the foreign exchange system.

During the signing ceremony, CBE President Abe Sano pointed out that Ethiopians living in the United Arab Emirates now have more formal avenues and incentives to support their nation’s economic growth.

According to Abdulnaser Haro, chairman of the Ethiopian community in Abu Dhabi, the agreement creates opportunities for cooperation in cutting-edge financial technologies and programs designed for low-income members.

He emphasised that Ethiopian workers and families in the UAE will directly benefit from the agreement by having easier access to loans for condominium housing projects.
