A legacy of entertainment

MultiChoice Nigeria was established in 1994 by Adewunmi Ogunsanya and has significantly changed the entertainment landscape, offering a variety of content to millions.

Ogunsanya, a senior advocate of Nigeria, emphasises the company’s commitment to local culture, which is evident in its introduction of channels in Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba. He believes that understanding local nuances is essential for connecting with audiences.

Under Ogunsanya’s leadership, MultiChoice has supported various initiatives, including the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, which celebrates African talent.

The company has also invested significantly in Nollywood, allocating up to $35 million annually to support local filmmakers. This commitment boosts the entertainment industry and creates job opportunities for thousands of young people.

Community engagement and innovation

MultiChoice’s free access initiative aligns with its mission to entertain and empower communities. John Ugbe, the current CEO, highlights that this offer allows families to enjoy premium content together during the festive season. “We want our subscribers to experience the best of what we have to offer,” Ugbe stated.

Since its inception, the company has continually evolved, becoming a pioneer in digital broadcasting in Nigeria. With over 100 channels available today, MultiChoice has expanded from its humble beginnings of just six channels. It was also the first to introduce various technological advancements, such as dual-view decoders and mobile television services.

MultiChoice Nigeria remains dedicated to enhancing viewer experiences through innovative solutions like self-help tools and interactive applications. This focus on technology ensures that subscribers have access to quality content anytime and anywhere.

MultiChoice celebrates the festive season with free access to all channels while reflecting on its growth from a small operation in Lagos to a leading broadcaster. The company’s focus on local content and community engagement highlights its commitment to enriching lives through entertainment.

This holiday season, MultiChoice demonstrates its commitment to customer satisfaction and cultural ambassadorship by providing free access to entertainment. The aim is to unite families and create memorable shared experiences.
