Ecobank Nigeria has partnered with Code 14 Labs to increase the availability and reach of coding education for schoolchildren across Nigeria.

According to a statement released by the bank on Sunday, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in Lagos cemented this partnership.

In order to provide students with reasonably priced yearly training and competency certification, the partnership makes use of Code 14 Labs’ interactive coding textbooks, such as the “Andrew Teaches” coding workbook, and its network of qualified instructors.

Utilisation of Ecobank’s extensive operational network across Africa

Using its wide-ranging operational network throughout the continent, Ecobank will use this partnership to offer coding education on a national and pan-African level.

To guarantee excellent instruction that gives kids measurable learning outcomes and gives parents peace of mind, Code 14 Labs will reciprocate by sharing its educational technology and reliable community.

Speaking during the MoU signing, Adeola Ogunyemi, Head of Consumer Banking at Ecobank Nigeria, Lagos, stated that the cooperation demonstrates the bank’s dedication to closing the digital divide, encouraging inclusivity, and educating the next generation for a future powered by technology.

She also emphasised how the partnership fits with Ecobank’s objective to give kids the tools they need to succeed in a world that is becoming more and more digital.

Goal of training 50,000 students to a proficient level

Otaru Daudu, Executive Director of Research and Technology at Code 14 Labs, commended the collaboration and said they are confident they will train 50,000 students to a proficient level in HyperText Markup Language and Cascading Style Sheets—two programming languages crucial for international internet communication—with the help of other partners like the British Council and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.

Code 14 Labs is dedicated to growing essential educational components through technology-driven inclusion, Daudu emphasised.

Ogunyemi, represented by Head of Consumer Products & Segments, Victor Yalokwu, further explained, “At Ecobank, we recognise that financial literacy and digital education are intertwined. This belief led to the creation of the MyFirst Account, a product aimed at children under 16 to encourage smart financial habits from an early age. By introducing students to coding through Code 14’s innovative mobile app, we’re not just teaching coding skills but also nurturing problem-solving abilities, creativity, and digital confidence.”
