The Edo State Government has unveiled its ambitious plan to train approximately 3,000 civil/public servants on Digital Appreciation and Business Packaging. 

As part of its transformation agenda, the government aims to collaborate with partners and stakeholders to domesticate the digital economy policy, thereby fostering digital inclusion within the state. In this article, we explore the government’s initiatives, partnerships, and potential impact on small businesses in Edo State.

The Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Ministry of Digital Economy, Science, and Technology, Yuwa Naps, affirmed the government’s commitment to engaging with partners for the effective implementation of the Nigeria digital economy policy. 

Naps highlighted the state’s collaboration with Tech4Dev, the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, and other partners to ensure inclusive technology utilization.

The government aims to domesticate the Nigeria digital economy policy within Edo State, focusing on the comprehensive integration of technology across various sectors. The Permanent Secretary emphasized the importance of stakeholder support in developing the policy document, which will encompass the functioning of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and private businesses in Edo State.

Enhancing Technology Adoption by Small Businesses

Mr. Kelvin Uwabi, the Managing Director of the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO), shed light on the policy review’s objectives. By domesticating the digital economy policy, the state aims to facilitate digital inclusion, ensuring that every citizen of Edo can access and leverage technology. 

Uwabi highlighted the state’s emphasis on business development, citing the capacity-building initiatives for 445 businesses. 

The training programs enabled these enterprises to showcase their products online, generating positive feedback and appreciation for the state government’s efforts.

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in the economic development of any region. Recognizing their significance, the Edo State Government has taken steps to empower these businesses through technology adoption. The capacity-building initiatives mentioned by Mr. Uwabi have proven instrumental in enabling 445 businesses to establish an online presence. 

By leveraging the power of e-commerce platforms, these enterprises can reach a wider customer base, expand their market share, and drive economic growth.

Digital Inclusion for All Edo Citizens

One of the focal points of the government’s digital transformation plan is to provide training to approximately 3,000 civil/public servants.

Through Digital Appreciation and Business Packaging programs, these employees will enhance their digital literacy and acquire skills necessary for thriving in the digital economy.
