Egypt’s Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) on June 12 announced the launch of a nationwide internship program designed to train over 10,000 university students in emerging technology fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital arts, and cloud computing. This initiative aims to equip young Egyptians with the skills to meet local and international labour market demands.

Comprehensive training across multiple tech disciplines

The internship program offers 120 hours of training, combining 90 hours of technical instruction with 30 hours focused on soft skills and freelancing fundamentals. Training is delivered online and in-person through the National Telecommunications Institute (NTI) campuses and Digital Egypt Innovation Hubs, also known as Creativa Centres, spread across the country.

The program covers eight specialised tracks, including data analytics, UI/UX design, systems administration, and digital marketing, reflecting ITIDA’s effort to align training with evolving industry needs.

Students enrolled in the program can also access international certification exams at discounted rates of up to 70%, enhancing their employability in domestic and global markets. A specialised track developed with the local distributor Systel will train 250 students annually in advanced telecommunications technologies such as microwave, satellite, fibre optics communications, and public safety networks.

Collaboration and broader government strategy

The internship program is a collaboration between ITIDA, NTI, and Systel and is part of Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s broader strategy to train half a million professionals in emerging technology domains by the end of 2025.

This initiative supports Egypt’s position as a regional hub for digital services and business process outsourcing, with over 760,000 university graduates each year, including 50,000 in ICT and a large portion in STEM fields.

Applications for the internship are open and free of charge via ITIDA’s official website. The program targets students from faculties of engineering, computer science, information systems, media, and arts. It also offers hands-on experience through summer internships with ICT companies, providing students with practical exposure and a monthly stipend for up to two months.

This nationwide effort reflects Egypt’s commitment to empowering its youth with the skills necessary to thrive in the digital economy and contribute to its tech-driven growth.
