Minister of Information, Communication, and Technology Savannah Maziya expressed her excitement about the partnership, saying, “This is a new chapter for Eswatini. We are investing in our people and our future.”

Transforming public services

One of the main goals of this partnership is to digitise Eswatini’s government services under its “Government in Your Hand” initiative.

This will allow citizens to access services such as scholarship applications and business registrations online, reducing bureaucratic hurdles.

Speaking about the collaboration, Maziya explained, “We want to make government services accessible to everyone, no matter where they are.” Google’s advanced tools will play a vital role in streamlining these processes.

The partnership also aims to boost transparency and efficiency in governance. By leveraging Google’s expertise, Eswatini hopes to create a more inclusive system that benefits all citizens.

Empowering the youth through technology

With 70 per cent of Eswatini’s population being under 35, the focus on youth empowerment is central to this initiative. Google has committed to launching educational programs in schools and universities nationwide.

These programs will teach students about artificial intelligence, coding, and other emerging technologies. Maziya emphasised that “we want our young people to be creators of technology, not just consumers. “

Google’s founder, Larry Page, has long championed using technology as a tool for societal progress. This partnership reflects his vision by bringing opportunities directly to communities that need them most. A Google representative added, “This collaboration is about creating solutions that work for Eswatini’s unique needs.”
