Ethio Telecom has introduced Znexus, a ground-breaking range of reasonably priced, cloud-based smart devices intended to address the continent’s most enduring problem: the disparity in smartphone usage.
The launch represents a significant turning point in the business’s continuous efforts to increase digital access and empower more people throughout Ethiopia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The network coverage problem was effectively resolved by Ethiopian Telecom’s prior strategies, which included deploying 5G in 26 towns and achieving an impressive 71 per cent 4G population coverage.
The usage gap, which keeps millions of people from utilising digital services because smartphones are too expensive and people lack sufficient digital literacy, is the company’s new focus under its “Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028 Strategy.”
More than 60 per cent of mobile users in Sub-Saharan Africa are still offline, despite significant improvements in infrastructure throughout the continent. The majority are hampered by low digital awareness and the cost of devices rather than by a lack of network availability. This issue is specifically addressed by Ethio Telecom’s Znexus initiative.
How Znexus devices work
Znexus devices transform mobile accessibility by incorporating cloud computing technology into feature phones that are reasonably priced. Through teleStorage, an integrated personal cloud service, Znexus lowers device costs, prolongs battery life, and eliminates storage constraints by moving processing power to the cloud (teleCloud).
Telebirr, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and local entertainment content are among the essential apps that are preloaded on every Znexus device. Users can enjoy a “smartphone-lite” experience without having to pay for a traditional smartphone thanks to this.
Included in the lineup are the Znexus 127 Lite, Znexus 131 Lite, and Znexus 2028 Lite.
All models are perfect for students, rural communities, and novice digital users because they have a hybrid keypad and touchscreen interface, easy navigation, and support for 4G LTE connectivity.
Gateway to digital empowerment
Ethio Telecom highlights that Znexus is a gateway to digital empowerment rather than just a gadget. The company’s Cloud Workspace solution lowers IT expenses and boosts productivity by allowing people and businesses to safely access cloud-based desktops and apps.
The Znexus R2025 Rise-Cloud Tab, Znexus E2025 Pro Cloud Laptop, Znexus E131 Pro Cloud Laptop, and Znexus E2025 Ultra Thin Client are all part of the Znexus Cloud Workspace product line.
These gadgets provide scalable and secure computing for all users and are tailored for industries like public administration, trade, education, agriculture, and health.
Ethio Telecom is combining its services into a single, cost-effective package that includes devices, connectivity, telebirr mobile payments, and telecloud storage.
This all-encompassing strategy guarantees that users can benefit from seamless access to digital tools without being concerned about data security or hardware constraints.
Expansion plan
With its “Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028 strategy, the company plans to continue expanding its infrastructure and accessibility solutions while aiming for 99 per cent 4G LTE Advanced coverage.
“Znexus is designed to make digital inclusion real,” Ethio Telecom stated. “Our goal is to ensure that every Ethiopian — regardless of income or geography — can access the opportunities of the digital economy.”
Znexus is a significant step toward Ethiopia’s digital transformation by fusing innovation, affordability, and inclusivity; it will power inclusion, redefine access, and inspire the future.
