Ethio Telecom announced on Monday that it has partnered with the Oromia Agriculture Bureau to launch a Big Data Platform tailored specifically for the agricultural sector. This advanced solution aims to significantly boost productivity, efficiency, quality, market access, and profitability throughout Oromia’s agricultural value chain.

The new platform Solution will facilitate smooth coordination between public and private stakeholders by bringing together all the players in the agricultural ecosystem, including farmers, agricultural experts, input suppliers, businesses, distributors, and retailers. In addition to strengthening market ties and enhancing resource management and disease and pest control, the project will support sustainable, data-driven farming methods.

“In line with our commitment to going beyond connectivity, Ethio Telecom continues to expand access to cutting-edge technologies and digital solutions that transform Ethiopia’s economic and social ecosystems, modernise institutional systems, and enhance the daily lives of our citizens. “Through the implementation of impactful digital initiatives, we remain a key driver in accelerating the Digital Ethiopia journey, promoting financial inclusion and supporting the nation’s comprehensive development goals,” Ethio Telecom stated.

The platform encompasses all phases of agricultural value chain

The platform, which will be powered by telecloud and first implemented in a few woredas (districts), will encompass all phases of the agricultural value chain. Digital transactions will be made possible, price and supply-demand analysis will be supported, and data from various sources—including IoT devices, satellite imagery, remote sensing, and subject matter experts—will be integrated. The platform will act as a focal point for data analysis and storage, improving regional information accessibility and institutional collaboration.

Additionally, a smarter, more resilient, and more efficient agricultural economy will be made possible by this data-driven transformation of Oromia’s agriculture. The platform will assist in creating a sustainable, digitally integrated agricultural value chain by utilising predictive analytics to lower risks, provide policy insights, optimise resource usage, and coordinate production with actual market demands.

Ethio Telecom’s commitment to digitise public services in Oromia

Ethio Telecom has already inked a number of partnership agreements with the Oromia National Regional State, which includes important institutions and city administrations in the region.

Through these partnerships, it has been putting into practice clever ideas and digital services aimed at modernising and digitising public services, which will ultimately improve the quality of life for citizens.

It stated, “Moving forward, our company is actively engaged in forging partnerships with various administrative offices (Bureaus and Agencies) of the Oromia Regional State to collaborate on key initiatives. Furthermore, we are committed to strengthening technological support and similar collaborative efforts by introducing digital solutions aimed at digitalising the region’s operational systems, and we are eager to reaffirm our dedication to this cause.”
