Ethiopian Airlines has placed orders for approximately 120 new aircraft from aviation behemoths Boeing and Airbus to support its aggressive expansion of routes and flight frequencies, significantly expanding its fleet.
Mesfin Tassew, the airline’s group CEO, stated that this significant investment is a crucial component of the carrier’s “Vision 2035” strategic plan, which aims to solidify its position as a global aviation leader.
Along with Airbus A350 aircraft, the confirmed orders include Boeing’s cutting-edge 787 and the most recent 777X models.
Mesfin Tasew, the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, confirmed that the airline is still receiving Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Two were delivered last month, and more are anticipated as planned.
With plans to purchase more 100-seat aircraft, Ethiopian is actively evaluating options for its regional fleet in addition to wide-body and narrow-body jets. In this segment, new orders are anticipated shortly.
Ethiopian Airlines’ plan to increase flight frequencies
Ethiopian Airlines’ intention to increase flight frequencies and expand the reach of its route network is clearly indicated by this massive fleet expansion.
The significant growth in the number of aircraft shows a plan to improve connections and strengthen its presence in different areas, such as passenger and cargo transport, logistics, aviation training, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, even though they haven’t mentioned specific new routes or increased flight frequencies.
Ethiopian Airlines is actively seeking strategic partnerships, which highlights its growth trajectory.
Group CEO Mesfin highlighted current partnerships with four international carriers in an interview with the Ethiopian News Agency, and he indicated that he was open to new joint ventures.
Several nations have approached Ethiopia for help in establishing their own national airlines, typically beginning with feasibility studies, demonstrating the international demand for the airline’s expertise.
A comprehensive plan to provide safe, secure, market-oriented, and customer-focused services throughout its whole aviation ecosystem—which includes ground handling, airport management, aerospace manufacturing, and travel and tourism—is outlined in Ethiopian Airlines’ “Vision 2035”.
A key step in accomplishing this challenging long-term goal is the continuous fleet expansion.
Ethiopian Airlines launches Vietnam’s route
Ethiopian Airlines recently opened a new passenger route to Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital.
Mr. Mesfin Tasew, the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, and other top executives attended the inauguration ceremony at the Skylight Hotel.
“The new service will support the airline’s mission to further connect Africa with the rest of the world, particularly the South Asian region,” Mr. Mesfin said during the event.
He declared that starting last week, Ethiopian Airlines will run four weekly passenger flights to Hanoi.
Thanks to this new route, Ethiopian Airlines now has 20 destinations in Asia. Mr. Mesfin underlined the expansion’s strategic significance in bolstering Africa-Asia trade and tourism relations.
He went on to say that the service will be crucial in advancing trade and business between Vietnam and African countries.
The new Hanoi route is anticipated to boost the airline’s competitiveness and facilitate cross-continental investment, trade, and cultural exchange by providing dependable and effective connectivity.
