Emtel, a leading telecommunications company in Mauritius, announced on Wednesday the state-of-the-art Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite internet in Mauritius in collaboration with Eutelsat Group.
The companies’ shared dedication to innovation and digital transformation is further strengthened by this expanded partnership, which places Emtel and Eutelsat as the first to introduce high-speed, low-latency LEO connectivity in Mauritius.
As a partner hosting the Eutelsat OneWeb ground station network, Emtel is dedicated to digital transformation and innovation for a connected Mauritius.
Emtel’s customers to enjoy high-speed, low-latency broadband connectivity
With this partnership, customers will enjoy high-speed, low-latency broadband throughout Mauritius and its islands for improved business continuity and digital resilience. This innovation eliminates reliance on a single subsea cable and builds a more reliable and secure network.
Commenting on the announcement, Cyril DUJARDIN, President of the Connectivity Business Unit for Eutelsat Group, said, “Emtel’s technical expertise and strong local presence make them a valuable partner both in hosting our ground infrastructure and in delivering LEO connectivity services across Mauritius. Together, we are enabling reliable, low-latency connectivity to support the island’s digital future.”
Emtel became the first telecom company in the nation to go public last year by listing on the Official List of the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM) after completing an initial public offering (IPO).
The IPO was accessible to all Mauritians (providing retail and institutional investors with investment opportunities) and foreign investors in accordance with Regulation S of the US Securities Act.
This vital decision represents a turning point in the company’s history and demonstrates its dedication to expansion, openness, and shareholder value generation. By making its shareholding available to the general public, Emtel hopes to strengthen its position in the fiercely competitive telecom sector and draw in a wide range of investors.
“We are excited to become the first telecom company in Mauritius to go public, offering investors a unique opportunity to participate in Emtel’s growth story. We welcome visionary partners and investors to join us as we pave the way to digital potential, operating with the highest standards of integrity and excellence. This move not only allows us to expand our shareholder base but also enables us to accelerate our growth plans and invest in cutting-edge technologies to better serve our customers,” said CEO Kresh Goomany during the announcement of the IPO.
