Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, restores service of its social apps after an unannounced disruption of its services nationwide on Tuesday afternoon. The internet is currently stirred with meta addicts recalling their panic attacks.

In response to the outage, users of the blue platform have voiced their concerns on alternative platforms such as X, formerly known as Twitter.

Attempts to log in were unsuccessful, and some X users are confused because their Facebook accounts automatically logged them out.

After waiting for an official statement from Meta to clarify the outage, people are wondering and speculating on what could have caused it.

How netizens are reacting

The disruption sparked the internet. One user took to mock the major users of Facebook–Boomers and others were posting various memes.

While Meta is back, the unexpected disruption didn’t occur without harm to some others who are facing difficulties logging back in.

This disruption also comes with a reflection and a caution to others as a reminder of their vulnerability to Meta. Under this category are business owners who are beginning to seek alternatives for their online presence.

A Facebook user by the name Chinwuba Kosy Linda said, “ Times like this. That’s why we have a website ”.

Lolo Nneka Obani said, “Y’all please save my number on WhatsApp ****. Say hi and just tell me your Facebook name, let me save your number too. I will download telegram with this number too. I had a panic attack just now. (emojis)”

Other things to note

When Meta was still known as Facebook in October 2021, it experienced a comparable multiple-service outage that brought down Instagram, Facebook, and other apps for approximately six hours. A senior executive at the time put the blame on “a faulty configuration change” in the company’s backbone routers, which are responsible for coordinating network traffic among the data centres. Facebook hadn’t experienced such a lengthy outage since March 2019, when the service was unavailable for around 24 hours across various apps.

Facebook announced “major disruptions” and said, “We are aware of an issue impacting Facebook Login” in a 03:17 p.m. WAT alert. As soon as possible, our engineering teams will work to fix the problem. The Facebook Login services “are in the process of being restored,” according to an update posted on the page at 05:07 p.m. If this has caused any trouble, please accept our utmost regrets.

Andy Stone, a spokesperson for Meta, stated at 05:19 p.m. that the company had “resolved the issue as quickly as possible” following a “technical issue that caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services.”
