Meta unveiled its new multi-profile feature after a year of testing, allowing users to establish various Facebook profiles to explore different interests, share information with different audiences, etc.

That means you can now be yourself with your friends and family and someone else with everyone else.

A single Facebook account can create up to four extra personal profiles. You can have five profiles on Facebook, including your main page and the four others you can make. You won’t have to log in or out to switch between profiles, just like on Instagram.

Facebook adds features to help creators connect with fans

Facebook says each new profile will have settings, such as who may access posts or make friend requests. Multiple Facebook profiles won’t appear on your main profile.

Facebook requires your primary profile to use your real name. You can name your additional profiles anything. This unlocks Pandora’s box for new feature abuse. Facebook prohibits using multiple profiles to mislead others or falsify your age or location. How the platform will verify that is unclear.

“People who have recently or repeatedly violated our policies cannot create new profiles. According to its announcement post, the firm will take action on an account and its linked accounts if someone consistently breaches our policies using any of their other personal profiles.

How Facebook multiple profiles works

You can pick a name and give up to four other personal profiles @username.

Connect with the people or groups you want so that each profile has its feed with content that is relevant to them and the interests they share.

You don’t have to log in to switch between your accounts.

Some features of Facebook, like dating, marketplaces, professional mode, and payments, won’t be available to extra personal profiles when the site first opens. At first, messaging will be available in the Facebook app and on the web for other personal accounts. We plan to add support for more profiles in Messenger in the coming months. Adult accounts will be the only ones able to add a second personal page.

Facebook rebrands to appeal to young users again

Note Controls

A new personal profile’s settings are automatically defaulted, so notification and privacy settings don’t carry over. Different profiles have different settings, such as who can see their posts or make friend requests. Verify your privacy settings for each new profile and adjust them as needed. Multiple Facebook profiles won’t appear on your main profile.
