The Fintech Association of Kenya (FINTAK) has announced the appointment of Dr. Juliet Ongwae as a Board Director, effective May 20, 2024. 

With over two decades of experience in digital financial services (DFS), Dr Ongwae is celebrated for her leadership in digital transformation across Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia.

Extensive Background in Digital Financial Services

Dr. Ongwae currently holds the position of Senior SupTech Specialist at the Cambridge SupTech Lab, University of Cambridge. Her career highlights include collaborations with government entities and financial institutions to develop and implement innovative digital payment systems.

She has held significant roles at MicroSave Consulting and Musoni Microfinance. Her tenure at the Central Bank of Kenya, spanning over a decade, was marked by her pivotal role in modernising payment systems and shaping vital financial policies and regulations.

Dr Ongwae’s academic credentials include a PhD from the University of Manchester. She has successfully leveraged technology to enhance regulatory compliance and financial supervision through her expertise in policy design, DFS strategy development, product innovation, and data analytics.

Strategic Leadership at FINTAK

In her new capacity at FINTAK, Dr Ongwae will head the SupTech/RegTech Committee, steering the fintech community towards more innovative and efficient regulatory practices. This role aligns with FINTAK’s mission to advance Kenya’s fintech sector by harnessing technology to foster a more inclusive financial ecosystem.
