On Monday, YZi Labs announced Jing Xiong as its new Investment Director. She will oversee the company’s AI investment initiatives and explore the nexus between biotech, Web3, and AI.
Jing Xiong’s portfolio
Jing, who has a strong interest in artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technology, began her journey at Stanford University, where she obtained her Ph.D. by examining the nexus between computer vision and neuroscience. She was drawn to Stanford’s entrepreneurship clubs, where founders turned ideas into reality from zero to one, despite lab work and complicated equations. “That spark of startup energy stayed with her,” YZi Labs noted.
Jing joined Google after graduating in 2019 and led internal intrapreneurship initiatives there for five years. She was an experienced tech lead at Google Lens, where she oversaw the creation of the first iteration of the “Top Match” feature and the image similarity ranking model that was used across all Lens verticals.
She moved into multimodal projects like document understanding and Gemini multimodal multilingual quality as her interest in natural language processing grew. She gained extensive technical knowledge and a keen understanding of how to create scalable, impactful technology as a result of these experiences.
Jing Xiong’s homecoming
Jing’s journey to YZi Labs is reminiscent of coming home. At a Stanford student club, she met Ella Zhang (Ling Zhang), the head of YZi Labs, and they bonded over their shared conviction that technology should do more than just perform well. As their paths intersected once more, Jing recognised an opportunity to transform not only technology but also the lives of its developers.
As the Investment Director of YZi Labs, Jing now uses her experience and spirit of entrepreneurship to support founders at the cutting edge of AI and the nexus of Web3 and biotech. She is committed to helping founders break through the clutter because she recognises the challenges faced by business owners. Jing is here to help founders succeed, whether that means finding real-world use cases, offering advice on fundraising tactics, or putting them in touch with the appropriate industry professionals.
Ella Zhang and Jing Xiong expresses their enthusiasm
“We’re so excited to welcome Jing to YZi Labs,” said Ella Zhang (Ling Zhang), Head of YZi Labs. “When we bumped into each other at a hackathon at AGI House, she told me—eyes lit up—about how she built an AI agent for fortune telling in her spare time. That kind of curiosity and creativity is exactly what we look for. At YZi Labs, we believe AI is transforming every aspect of how we live and work. Jing’s onboarding marks the beginning of building out our AI team, and we’re actively looking for more bold, brilliant AI talent to join us.”
“I knew instantly this was where I belonged,” said Jing Xiong, Investment Director of YZi Labs. “I’m inspired to partner with founders transforming the future of technology. I see AI as a force to empower both enterprises and individuals, crafting intuitive solutions and addressing humanity’s most complex challenges. I’m here to help bring that vision to life.”
Regardless of market trends, YZi Labs still places a high priority on investments in projects with solid foundations and long-term impact. The company is actively looking for outstanding founders who are spearheading Web3, biotech, and AI innovation.
