On Wednesday, Google unveiled its new Guided Learning feature in the Gemini AI app, aiming to revolutionise how students study.

This tool goes beyond simply providing answers; it offers step-by-step explanations, helping learners build real understanding.

Gemini’s Guided Learning integrates visuals like videos, diagrams, and interactive quizzes to create an immersive tutoring experience, setting it apart from standard chatbot responses.

Google’s VP of Learning and Sustainability, Maureen Heymans, described it as a “collaborative thinking partner that helps you get it, each step of the way.”

The tool draws on Google’s content ecosystem, pulling in relevant YouTube videos, flashcards, and other multimedia resources tailored to the user’s progress, making study sessions more dynamic and effective.

This initiative is Google’s answer to ChatGPT’s Study Mode, which also focuses on supporting learning rather than cheating. Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, emphasised extensive collaboration with educators to base Guided Learning on proven educational science and research.

Compared to competitors, Gemini’s strength lies in its multimodal approach and seamless integration with Google’s vast educational content delivered through Search, Classroom, and NotebookLM. This makes Guided Learning a rich, interactive tool that adapts to learners’ individual needs.

The new tool is currently available with special subscriptions for users in several countries, including Japan, Indonesia, Korea, and Brazil, encouraging widespread use.

Backed by a $1 billion investment in education over three years, Google is betting on AI’s role in transforming how people learn worldwide, making Guided Learning a notable new force in digital education.
