An inter-agency data pricing committee was inaugurated by Ghana’s Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations on Saturday, in an effort to cut telecom’s cost in the nation.
Representatives from the ministries of finance, energy, national communication authority, public utilities regulatory commission, chamber of telecommunications, national union of Ghana students, Ghana bloggers association, Ghana payment & fintech association, and association of content creators comprise the committee, which is chaired by Samuel Nartey George, minister of communication, digital technology, and innovation.

According to the government, the group has been given 14 working days to prepare a road map that will lower data prices and make it more available to all citizens.
“The minister for communication, digital technology and innovations, Sam George (MP) chairs inter-agency data pricing committee, inaugurated today with the task to assess prevailing pricing models and make recommendations,” stated the department.
“The Committee has 14 working days to produce a road map that will lead to the reduction in the cost of data and make it accessible for all citizens,” the statement adds.
This development from Ghana is coming on the heels when its fellow West African country, Nigeria increases telecom tariff to 50% thereby exacerbating outrage from its citizens amidst the country’s economic hardship.
