Israel’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sharren Haskel, has reaffirmed her nation’s readiness to collaborate with Ghana in advancing key sectors, including agriculture, technology, and renewable energy. Her visit to Ghana highlights Israel’s commitment to fostering development partnerships that benefit both countries.

During a press briefing at the Israeli Embassy in Accra following discussions with President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Haskel praised Ghana’s potential for impactful collaborations. She emphasized the significance of agriculture as a priority, citing Vice President Opoku-Agyemang’s focus on addressing food security challenges.

Leveraging Israeli expertise in agriculture

Haskel underscored Israel’s leadership in advanced agricultural technologies, suggesting their application could bolster Ghana’s food production systems. “Israel has proven itself economically in developing industries and advancing technology, particularly in farming,” Haskel noted. “The Vice President is deeply passionate about food security, and with Israel’s advancements in this field, there are meaningful opportunities for collaboration.”

Reflecting on the historical connection between Israel and African nations, Haskel highlighted the legacy of former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, who championed partnerships with Africa. “Golda Meir had a special place in her heart for African nations, and she believed in sharing knowledge and tools to drive mutual development,” she said.

Exploring broader cooperation

Beyond agriculture, Haskel identified technology, education, and women’s empowerment as promising areas for partnership. She pointed to Israel’s successful initiatives in early childhood education and gender equality as examples of shared learning opportunities.
“We’ve developed programs that empower women and enhance early learning. These are areas where Ghana and Israel can cooperate meaningfully,” she explained.

Renewable energy also emerged as a key focus during Haskel’s visit. Israel’s Ambassador to Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, Roey Gilad, discussed the potential for solar energy collaborations, given Ghana’s abundant sunlight and Israel’s cutting-edge solar technologies. “There’s significant potential to develop solar energy solutions that can advance sustainable development in Ghana,” Gilad remarked.

Strengthening ties through innovation

Haskel’s visit underscores Israel’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with Ghana through innovation and shared values. By focusing on solutions in agriculture, technology, and renewable energy, the partnership aims to address critical challenges and unlock new opportunities for growth.
As discussions continue, both nations are poised to deepen their ties, leveraging expertise and resources to drive mutual progress and development.
