Glovo, the premier multi-category app, has engaged in a strategic relationship with Shoprite, the largest supermarket retailer in Nigeria, to offer home deliveries.

This move is in line with the company’s aim to give everyone simple access to anything in their city, regardless of where they live.

Customers now have the ability to order all of their daily necessities, including freshly prepared meals, fresh fruits and vegetables, from Shoprite on Glovo due to an alliance that was meant to give a straightforward, quick, and hassle-free experience for customers shopping for groceries online. Customers typically receive their orders within an hour of placing them, and this is made possible by the fleet of couriers that Glovo maintains.

Details of Glovo and Shoprite partnership

The deal, which was signed in May, will cover all Shoprite stores in Lagos, Abuja, and Ibadan, where Glovo is already operating, and there are also plans to extend to more cities in the upcoming months. Just two years after it first appeared on the scene, Glovo made a strategic move that brought about significant shifts in the local commerce industry, thereby significantly enhancing the company’s standing in the Nigerian market.

Tosin Olukoya, Strategy Manager for Retail Supermarkets Nigeria, stated that e-commerce has completely transformed the retail industry. As a result, the supermarket is striving to fulfil the ever-evolving requirements of the modern-day client by simplifying the process of online shopping through the use of the app.

“Shoprite is constantly looking for ways to deliver innovative services that make customers’ daily shopping experience easier. Leveraging Glovo’s global and local expertise in the quick commerce industry, we believe this partnership will offer fast and convenient home delivery service that allows us to address our customers needs in the digital age.” said Olukoya.

Reactions to the partnership

Bunmi Adeleye, the Chief Strategy Officer for Retail Supermarkets Nigeria, noted further that the business connection with Glovo aligns with the mission of Retail Supermarkets Nigeria to bring convenience, quality, and outstanding value to customers as well as the communities that they operate in. Glovo is the company that Retail Supermarkets Nigeria is doing business with.

Kolawole Adeniyi, Head of Q-commerce for Glovo Nigeria, stated when speaking about the relationship that it coincides with the company’s aim to give everyone with quick access to anything in their city. This statement was made in reference to the arrangement.

As he stated, “To deliver on our vision, we seek partnerships with top retailers with stores widespread across our active locations. Glovo is enjoying strong growth and has big ambitions. Our goal is to make grocery shopping faster, smoother and more convenient than ever before for the customer. Our partnership with Shoprite will allow us to do this, building on this new vertical and helping us drive growth further across Africa.”

Lamide Akinola, General Manager, Glovo Nigeria also said, “Our desire is to be the top-of-mind multicategory app and we look forward to enabling our consumer base to access Shoprite products from wherever they are. We believe that this partnership will help us achieve our broader strategy of being a one-stop-shop for all our customer’s deliveries.” she added.
