Nigeria is poised to experience a paradigm shift in technology training. Google and GOMYCODE have unveiled the “Build with AI” program in Nigeria, a bold move to cultivate the next generation of innovation leaders.

This initiative has attracted global attention to the country’s expanding reservoir of tech talent.

“We are witnessing a technological renaissance in Nigeria, driven by a vibrant community of developers who are eager to solve the challenges around them,” said John Kimani, Head of Developer Ecosystem for Google in Sub-Saharan Africa.

“Build with AI” program empowers local developers

Google and GOMYCODE seek to train 1,000 Nigerian developers in generative AI. GOMYCODE’s hackerspaces combine in-person education with rigorous guided labs for the 11-week curriculum. Developers acquire instant, applicable experience with this combination.

“Our collaboration with GOMYCODE is about more than just training; it’s about empowering this community with the tools and expertise they need to build the future,” Kimani explained.

Targeting high-priority sectors such as fintech, healthtech, and agritech, the curriculum is designed with the guidance of Google experts and employs sophisticated AI tools like Gemini to achieve real-world impact.

Bridging the gap: from raw talent to AI-ready workforce

The Build with AI program begins as African and Nigerian businesses use technology to solve issues and spur growth. By giving participants access to top-notch AI resources and training, the initiative connects undeveloped tech talent with AI innovation and leadership.

Babatunde Olaifa, GOMYCODE’s Country Director, highlighted the mission: “We are creating an environment where innovation can thrive, and we are incredibly excited to see the solutions that will emerge from this program, built by Nigerians, for Nigeria and the world.”

This environment is crafted to foster both local relevance and global competitiveness among participants.

Nigerian developers: leading the charge in real-world AI solutions

The “Build with AI” launch moment is deliberate. Nigeria’s developer community, home to almost half a million professionals, is set to impact the global economy as AI rapidly changes it.

Google said African-built solutions can give new insights into banking, agricultural, and healthcare problems.

Program applications are now being accepted all around Nigeria, and the journey will end with a demo day where leading developers present their work to a group of Google and business executives.

“By equipping developers with Google’s Generative AI, we are helping to unlock a new frontier of innovation that can deliver social and economic impact across the continent,” Kimani emphasised
