Imagine instantly seeing how any outfit might look on you, no fitting room required.

On Thursday, Google launched Doppl, a new app that uses artificial intelligence to let users visualise themselves in any outfit, simply by uploading a photo.

This bold move promises to change how people explore fashion and make shopping decisions.

Doppl app lets you virtually try on outfits with AI

Doppl is designed to make trying on clothes as easy as snapping a picture. Users initiate the process by uploading a full-body photograph of themselves.

Subsequently, they can select any ensemble image, including those of a friend, a thrift store photo, or a screenshot from social media.

The app instantly generates a digital, animated version of the user wearing the selected clothes.

Google says Doppl “makes it fun and easy to see any outfit on a digital, animated version of yourself”.

The app even allows users to save and share their favourite looks with friends or followers, making style exploration social and interactive.

AI-Generated Videos Bring Outfits to Life

But Doppl doesn’t stop at static images. The app introduces a feature that converts these virtual try-ons into AI-generated videos, giving users a better sense of how an outfit might look and move.

This dynamic visualisation helps bridge the gap between online inspiration and real-world experience.

Google’s blog post explains, “Doppl brings your looks to life with AI-generated videos—converting static images into dynamic visuals that give you an even better sense for how an outfit might feel”.

Users can upload images of outfits they see anywhere, and Doppl will simulate how those clothes would appear on their animated likeness.

Google’s ongoing push into AI-powered shopping

Doppl builds on Google Shopping’s recent virtual try-on features, but takes personalisation further by letting users try clothes on their digital selves, not just on preset models.

The app is currently available on iOS and Android in the US for users aged 18 and above with a Google account.

As part of Google Labs, Doppl is still experimental. The company notes, “Fit, appearance and clothing details may not always be accurate,” and the app might “imagine parts of an outfit if there are missing elements”.

Still, Google believes this is a leap forward in making online shopping more interactive and personalised.
