Google Drive folders can now be summarised by Gemini AI

The incorporation of Gemini into Google Drive is becoming more helpful. As of December 13th, 2024, the artificial intelligence assistant can now generate summaries of everything contained within a folder, summarise papers, and answer questions regarding a project.

How to Use the folder summary feature

Using this function, you can open a folder and then click the new button that says “Summarise this folder,” located at the very top of the page. Gemini will provide you with an inventory of the folder’s contents. According to Google, you may use Gemini to search for specific files within a folder or to enquire about the folder itself by asking questions such as “What is the theme of this folder?” with Gemini.

You can also drag and drop a folder into the Gemini sidebar, right-click on a folder, and select “Ask Gemini.”

Limitations of Gemini’s current capabilities

Google has stated that Gemini can only provide information about presentations, spreadsheets, PDFs, and text documents. However, according to 9to5Google’s testing of the program, during on-program testing, Gemini could recognise photographs contained within a folder.

Google introduced Gemini to the sidebar in Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides for the first time in June. The folder summary function of Gemini is now available to subscribers of Google One AI Premium and users of Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, and Education Premium.
