Google has revealed an innovative update for its Hustle Academy programme to promote the expansion of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.

The 2024 batch is currently accepting applications, and this year’s programme will include a revolutionary incorporation of business-focused artificial intelligence (AI) training.

The Google Hustle Academy has aided small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), the backbone of Africa’s economy, by offering thorough business education, training, and networking opportunities. More than 10,000 firms have benefited from the programme since it began in 2022, as it has given them the tools to overcome obstacles to funding and acquire critical skills for expansion.

AI transforming SMBs: Google’s Prospects for Economic growth

Remarkably, participants who were recipients of grants through the Hustle Academy witnessed a remarkable surge in their efficacy in securing new funding sources beyond their immediate circles, seeing a notable increase from 11 per cent to 20 per cent. This shift underscores the program’s profound impact in empowering entrepreneurs to diversify their financial backing and expand their ventures.

Moreover, the ripple effects of the program extend beyond mere financial gains. The Hustle Academy has catalysed job creation, which fosters economic growth and stability. On average, four new employment opportunities were generated for every cohort of 10 businesses that successfully completed the program. This underscores the vitality of entrepreneurial endeavours and highlights the program’s broader contribution to societal welfare by fostering employment opportunities and driving economic prosperity.

Acknowledging the vast potential of AI for small and medium-sized businesses in Africa, Google has strategically chosen to include AI-focused training straight into the Hustle Academy curriculum. Kristy Grant, Google’s Head of B2B (business-to-business) Marketing for Sub-Saharan Africa, highlighted how AI can revolutionise SMBs by boosting their productivity, stimulating innovation, and opening up new avenues for economic growth.

Increasing Productivity with AI-Powered Automation

The upcoming AI modules are designed with a primary aim: to empower small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with the necessary knowledge and expertise to harness the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in steering data-driven decisions, streamlining operations, and crafting AI-infused marketing strategies.

Through engaging sessions like “Boost Your Productivity with AI” and “Marketing Strategy and AI,” participants will discover how to effectively utilise AI tools to save time, enhance productivity, and amplify their digital presence. Whether optimising workflows or refining marketing tactics, these modules promise to equip SMBs with the essential skills to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven landscape.

Since its founding, the Hustle Academy has assisted over 10,000 companies in raising capital and adding workers. The programme aims to further amplify this impact by arming SMBs with the tools they need to leverage AI technology for improved company performance and economic growth.

Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa startups can apply for the Hustle Academy batch 2024. The programme runs all year round. By enabling African SMBs to take advantage of AI’s transformative potential, this programme will put them in a stronger position to succeed in the increasingly digital and data-driven business environment.
