In light of the recently implemented hike in telecom tariffs, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) on Wednesday raised its SMS transaction alerts from ₦4 to ₦6 effective May 1.

The bank said the increase aligned with the NCC-approved tariff adjustment.

“This adjustment is due to a recent increase in telecom rates as communicated by the telecommunication service providers,” the bank explained.

GTBank emphasised the value of SMS alerts in assisting clients in monitoring their accounts and quickly identifying any suspicious activity.

“Kindly note that transaction alerts are important and help you keep track and stay in control of activities on your account,” it said.

Option for customers to opt out

Customers who would rather use other notification methods can, however, choose not to receive SMS alerts from the bank.

“If you prefer not to receive transaction alerts via SMS, you can update your preferences by completing the transaction alert form on our website and sending it to [email protected],” the message added.

The bank encouraged customers who needed more information or assistance to contact dedicated customer service helplines.
