Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) trended on X for hours on Monday and Tuesday after customers lamented they were unable to perform transactions on the bank app.

GTCO had sent a mail to customers last week to inform them ahead of the upgrade, forewarning that the bank would close early on Friday, October 11 but resume 9:00 a.m. on Monday, October 14.

The move, according to GTCO, was to transition to a robust suite of Finacle Core banking application system.

Although the bank said digital banking transactions will partially be affected during the period of upgrade, many Nigerians bitterly complained that they couldn’t access their funds over the weekend and also on Tuesday.

GTCO released another statement to notify customers around 9:30 a.m. stating that its branches nationwide and other channels would reopen by noon on Monday instead of 9:00 a.m. as previously announced.

“We would like to update you that this transaction has taken a little longer than planned,” the bank wrote in a belated statement on X Monday morning.

The bank posted an update that the transition process was successful and complete around 4:00 p.m.

But GTCO customers were still experiencing  problems and were unable to log in on the bank app as of Tuesday afternoon.

Customers complained that the bank apps and USSD channels remained inaccessible.

Here are some of the comments on X.

“GTBank is misleading customers by claiming their systems are back online—this is false! I just finished a 12-minute call with their customer service, and the representative confirmed that the system is still undergoing upgrades,” @kenyAdegboyega wrote on Tuesday.

“Funny how gtbank’s online victory laps about the “successful” core banking update is very much divorced from the reality of its customers” Ezra Olubi tweeted on Tuesday.

“Dear @gtbank

You earlier mentioned resumption of activities by 9:am today,

Now moved it to 12:00 noon.

It’s now 4:07pm (16:07) hours,

Your platforms are not yet up,” @Iam_JAlphred wrote in a tweet on Monday.

Another customer, @_ErBuKaH_,  said be “called customer care..they said I should be patient..that it is taking longer than planned. Even though they told me that everything will be up and running by 12pm this afternoon…since Friday..i can log into the app now but can’t perform any transaction.”

Matriarch stressed that she had an unproductive day due to transaction hassles.

“Imagine not being able to do anything productive on a Monday because GTBank decided to be unreliable.” The X user wrote on Monday.

A surgeon, Olaleke Folaranmi, criticised criticised GTCO and suggested the bank goes into food and fashion franchise if it wasn’t ready for serious banking services.

“I saw a patient this evening, she had been stranded since morning and couldn’t access healthcare because her Gtbank account was inaccessible. You should probably just transition into a food and fashion franchise. Banking is a serious business You play too much!!!” wrote @DrGeeONE

“What is wrong with GTB or GTCO they call themselves now? Why is banking in Nigeria just unnecessarily hard and unreliable? @gtbank @gtbank_help” queried Comrade Olajide ikujenyo.
