Orange Egypt’s Board of Directors has appointed Hesham Mahran as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, effective August 1.

He succeeds Yasser Shaker, who has been promoted to CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa, replacing Jérôme Henique.

Hesham Mahran’s portfolio

Mahran brings over 25 years of experience in information technology and telecommunications. He holds a master’s degree in business administration and has held several senior roles within Orange Egypt.

Most recently, he held the position of Chief Officer for the Business Sector, where he was instrumental in creating integrated telecommunications solutions for the business segment and formulating Orange Egypt’s enterprise strategy.

He also led key infrastructure and digital transformation initiatives, including the development and management of the company’s data centre in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital.

His appointment underscores Orange Group’s ongoing commitment to the Egyptian market and its confidence in local leadership talent.

About Orange

Orange is one of the world’s leading telecom operators, with 2022 revenues of €43.5 billion and 136,000 employees globally as of March 2023, 74,000 of them in France.

The Group had 288 million customers worldwide, including 243 million mobile users and 24 million fixed broadband subscribers, and operates in 26 countries.

Under the Orange Business brand, the Group provides global IT and telecom services to enterprises. In February 2023, it launched its “Lead the Future” strategy, aimed at strengthening its market position through network excellence, operational efficiency, and customer service leadership.

Orange shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange (ORAN) and Euronext Paris (ORA).

5G networks in Egypt

On June 4, Orange Egypt announced the introduction of 5G services in the Egyptian market after completing all operational and technical preparations successfully.

This accomplishment signifies a major breakthrough in digital communications and the company’s dedication to providing innovative worldwide technologies that meet Egyptian users’ growing need for speed and efficiency.

The introduction coincides with a sharp rise in Egypt’s demand for high-speed internet due to the growth of digital apps, online learning, remote work, and multimedia streaming.

Driven by rising usage of digital applications, remote work, online learning, and multimedia streaming, 5G is expected to be a key enabler of digital transformation.

It supports next-generation use cases such as ultra-HD video, immersive gaming, real-time streaming, artificial intelligence, and smart city infrastructure.
