The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and UNITEL Money have inked an agreement aimed at enhancing Angola's digital payments ecosystem and financial inclusion. IFC announced the partnership on Monday.
The World Bank Group member IFC is a global institution that encourages private investment in developing nations.
It offers technical guidance through its Digital Finance Division to support the private sector and foster an environment that is conducive to the development of inclusive and sustainable digital solutions.
IFC-UNITEL Money’s partnership goal
The partnership aims to improve UNITEL Money's performance with underserved populations by using cutting-edge mobile payment solutions that guarantee ease, convenience, and security.
The project intends to assist Unitel Money in growing both its active customer base and the number of its mobile money agents in a nation where mobile money usage is still low, despite an estimated 64 percent of adults owning mobile phones.
IFC will offer advisory services to Unitel Money over the course of the next 24 months to assist them in creating a more comprehensive and inclusive plan for reaching more customers, agents, and merchants—particularly in underprivileged regions of Angola.
This partnership's primary goals include increasing the number of registered and active customers across the country, strengthening the network of agents with new support systems and ongoing training, developing a more comprehensive and inclusive strategy for acquiring customers, agents, and merchants, developing value propositions targeted at national commerce and micro and small businesses, and launching financial literacy and awareness campaigns about the advantages of mobile money.
Mobile money is a convenient, safe, and secure way to send and receive money, and it has the potential to increase economic activity and microbusinesses in Angola.
UNITEL Money at Benguela International Fair (FIB)
UNITEL Money is a participant in the Benguela International Fair (FIB), considered the largest business gathering in the south-central region of Angola. The ongoing FIB at the Ombaka National Stadium in Benguela began on May 21 and will end on May 25.
Included in the UNITEL stand, UNITEL Money will provide the public with useful and creative ways to make financial services more accessible while fostering financial literacy and inclusion throughout the nation.
Open MONEY accounts, transfer existing accounts, make deposits, and get individualised assistance for any other service-related need will all be available to attendees over the course of the five days of the fair.
Additionally, to provide more accessibility and convenience, MONEY agents will be stationed outside the venue, ready to assist all patrons and process deposits and withdrawals. The dedication of UNITEL Money to being nearer to Angolans wherever they may be is demonstrated by this active presence on the ground.
How MONEY is changing the lives of Angolans
A presentation titled "From Mobile to Market: How MONEY is changing the lives of Angolans" was held by UNITEL Money on May 22 at the Conference Room as part of the fair's official schedule.
This intervention will show how UNITEL Money's mobile services are changing how people interact with money, encouraging small businesses to become more formal, enabling digital commerce, and generating new economic opportunities.
Participation in FIB 2025 is part of UNITEL Money's ongoing strategy to utilise mobile phone solutions that are user-friendly, secure, and accessible, aiming to promote local and national economic growth by making financial services more available to citizens.
UNITEL Money is currently available in several informal marketplaces in the provinces of Luanda, Benguela, Huíla, Huambo, and Lunda-Norte, helping thousands of Angolans become financially included. Since March 2025, it has been at the 4th of April Market in Benguela, and soon after its inauguration, it will also be at the Lobito African Market.
