Uber has raised the standard fare across all of its products. The minimum fare for all Uber services will increase from GHC 7.00 to GHC 8.00, including Uber X, Uber X Share, and Uber Connect. Furthermore, the minimum rate for Uber Comfort will increase from GHC 9.00 to GHC 10.00.

Additionally, the base nighttime fare has gone up from GHC 8.00 to GHC 9.00 for all services.

The upward adjustment occurs at a time when fuel costs are constantly rising and Ghana’s economy is currently dealing with inflation rates of 23.6 percent as of May 2022. Following driver feedback and the state of the economy, Uber last year cut its commission for drivers from 25% to 20%.

Uber Operations In Ghana

In Ghana, Uber Has Been Operating For Six Years and Is Providing Cutting-Edge Mobility Solutions. Today marks Uber’s sixth anniversary of doing business in Ghana.

The ride-sharing service, which made its debut in Accra six years ago, is currently assisting thousands of passengers in finding rides around Kumasi, Cape Coast, and Takoradi while also commemorating its contribution to regional economic development and female emancipation.

Using digital entrepreneurship to widen economic access Uber sponsored a three-month competition for Ghanaian drivers who use the Uber app to identify and recognize the top six performing drivers as part of their six-year anniversary celebrations.

Each driver received a 43-inch Nasco TV, a GHS400 fuel coupon, and GHS1,000 worth of Melcom shopping vouchers. Appiah Samuel Ohemeng, Kemevor Divine, Justice Attigah, Bimpeh Prosper, Edimah Peter, and Tetteh Edmund were the victors among Uber drivers.

Uber is aware that access to financing to expand these independent enterprises continues to be a hurdle, even if Ghana’s digital entrepreneurship is booming with over 60 platforms offering distinctive income options. This is why Uber has worked to improve drivers’ access to car ownership through its collaboration with Moove, a provider of automotive solutions that offers flexible rental and drive-to-own alternatives.

“Drivers are at the center. of our operations, and we thrive when they succeed,” says Marjorie Saint-Lot, country manager for Uber in Ghana and the Ivory Coast. We are aware that a number of additional economic factors, such as rising fuel prices, have an impact on the cost of moving people and goods, and we take the concerns of drivers seriously and actively engage in discussions about problems that have an impact on their businesses.

To maximize earnings for drivers using the platform, we reduced our service fee to 20% in January and then raised trip fares in Kumasi and Accra. Our promise to them is to continually look for methods to increase their earning potential while still satisfying riders’ demands, Saint-Lot continues.

Uber has also introduced new product lines, such as Uber Connect, a peer-to-peer distribution service that is being used by an increasing number of small businesses to increase customer service reliability.

At The Touch Of A Button, Safety

Safety continues to be a primary focus as the company expands and the region’s offerings rise. The same door-to-door safety measures are present in all Uber products, including the driver’s in-app emergency button, Injury Protection, 24/7 support, and driver background checks and screenings.

Late last year, Uber also introduced Rider Selfies in response to driver criticism of rider verification. Before they request their first cash trip, cash riders are prompted to upload a selfie as part of this clever safety feature. All of this happens in a matter of seconds. The objective is to consistently offer cutting-edge goods and services to better the Uber community’s experience.

“The country’s quick infrastructural development and entrepreneurial spirit have motivated us to continue providing people throughout Ghana with an affordable, simple, and flexible choice to get around the city without stress,” Saint-Lot writes in his conclusion. We eagerly anticipate the promising potential that the nation offers and are excited to continue working with stakeholders and politicians to advance our vision for urban mobility.
