Internet subscriptions climbed to 139.28 million in December: NCC

According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) reports released on Friday, internet subscriptions increased from 136.54 million in November to 139.28 million in December.

Nigeria’s internet consumption increased by 36.5 percent year over year from 713,200 terabytes in December 2023 to 973,455 terabytes in December 2024. 998.79 million gigabytes is the approximate total use.

Internet usage increased by 10.75 percent between November and December 2024.

At the year’s conclusion, broadband penetration was 44.43 percent, which is less than the 70 per cent goal set by Nigeria’s National Broadband Plan (2020–2025), which ends this year.

Active telecom users decreased from 224.7 million to 164.9 million 

The number of active telecom users in the nation decreased from 224.7 million to 164.9 million at the end of 2024.

The largest telecom provider in the nation, MTN Nigeria, increased its subscriber base from 81.2 million in November to 84.6 million in December, increasing its market share to 51 per cent.

Globacom, which had faced regulatory issues earlier in the year, added 500,000 members to reach 20.1 million, while Airtel Nigeria’s user base grew from 55.4 million to 56.6 million.

With 3.2 million members at the end of the year, 9mobile maintained a 1.99 per cent market share.
